About
Tigh na Coille has been in our family since 1991. It was originally built to accommodate construction workers tasked with building the White Corries ski lift.
At that time the road to the front of the property was the main road across Rannoch Moor, which went from Tyndrum to Glencoe. This historic road also forms part of the West Highland Way.
The ski lift was originally commissioned by the Black Corries estate which was owned by the Flemming family at the time. Another member of their family was Ian Flemming, creator of James Bond.
The design of the house is not unique. Tigh na Coille was built using a modular design system called Dorran. The Dorran system consists of concrete wall sections built around a timber frame. There are other properties in Scotland that look almost identical to this one!
Despite being designed in the 1950s, the Dorran modular system is metric which really simplified the construction process and helps greatly with modern renovation works.
